Things to do on a Rainy Day
A Rainy Day needn’t spoil your holiday at Cwmcrwth Farm as we have plenty of suggestions to keep all the family entertained with things to do on a rainy day.
Most important thing to remember is a raincoat when coming on holiday to Wales. Remember there’s no such thing as bad weather only bad clothing, so make sure your holiday isn’t totally ruined by having some good quality waterproofs and wellies or boots, that way you can discover Wales in the wet.
We all love a walk on the beach chasing rainbows, sit in a cafe watching the world go by or a snuggle up in the cottage watching a dvd. But if you really need to find a wet day adventure to entertain the kids here are some ideas to help you enjoy West Wales in the rain.
Folly Farm
Folly Farm is great in all weathers. Over 50% of their attractions are indoors so it’s top of our list of great things to do on a rainy day. Although many of the animals are outside, the massive Jolly Barn has a variety of animals including donkeys, sheep, pigs and rabbits inside. If you need to dry out and get warm the reptile house offers a perfect sanctuary.
The children’s favourite is the huge play barn with soft play, slides and adventure playground with zones for babies, toddlers and older children. Next door an enormous hangar hosts the traditional fairground rides. Vintage style gallopers, trains and swings make for a fantastic afternoon of fun.
If you want to make a return visit when the sun comes out to see the zoo animals and play outside return tickets are available for half price.

Dolaucothi Gold Mines
Highly recommended day out for families and as the gold mines are underground it doubles up as a wet day activity. The guided tours are amazing and children will love getting kitted out like a miner to take part. They also love panning for gold in the big tank and bringing home their finds. There’s a tea room and shop on site and if the weather clears up, some fab walks in the woods.
National Botanic Gardens
The National Botanic Gardens might not be top of your list for children but be ready to be surprised. The gardens hold events every weekend and most of these have a child friendly element and in the school holidays there are special activities everyday for children.
The new butterfly house is an added attraction and ideal things to do on a rainy day, along with the Great Glass House where the children will love to wander the paths and discover the koi fish in the pond. With fabulous cafes and eateries on hand there’s no excuse not to take a look while the toddler grabs a nap in the buggy or the older children grab an ice cream in Heavenly with Dad!
Dan y Ogof Showcaves and dinsosaur park
The national show caves are very impressive and worth a visit, but you may wish to go on a fine day if you have a dinosaur made child in tow.
NT Dinefwr
So close to the farm, many of our guests make frequent visits mainly to walk the fantastic parklands and climb to the top of the castle but Newton House is worth a visit. Because the contents are not original children are permitted to have a hands on experience like playing the piano. And even playing badminton in the dining room on rainy days. The above and below stairs tours are recommended as is the cake in the cafe!
